Electronics engineer – radio VDES

Role Overview

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer for the hardware design and physical integration of our VDES radio platform. In this role, you will be responsible for the integrity and performance of the hardware “body,” ensuring that high-speed digital processing and sensitive RF circuitry coexist seamlessly. You will drive the project from initial component selection and schematic capture through to multi-layer PCB layout and global maritime certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Board Design: Design high-density, multi-layer PCBs that combine high-speed digital processors with sensitive analog radio parts.
  • RF Signal Path: Build the “front-end” of the radio—selecting amplifiers, filters, and switches that handle the maritime VHF signal (156–162 MHz).
  • Power Delivery: Create a stable power system for the board.
  • Signal Integrity: Ensure that high-speed data travels across the board perfectly
  • Certification Readiness: Design the board meeting maritime standards (like IEC 60945).

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Telecommunications Engineering
    • Electronics Engineering
  • Master’s degree is a plus.

Required Skills

  • Design professional-grade PCBs, specifically for RF or Wireless products.
  • Design Tools: Altium Designer.
  • Hardware Skills: knowledge of high-speed routing and RF matching.
  • Lab Expertise: Hands-on experience with Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers and VNAs to tune and verify the physical radio hardware.
  • Component Knowledge: Experience with SDR transceivers and RF Power Amplifiers.
  • Collaborative: Experience working alongside software and FPGA engineers to optimize the boundary between FPGA logic, hardware and C++/Python application code.
